I just went to this place for the first time last week. A friend recommended it, and I checked out the Yelp page. An average of 4.5 stars?? I thought this has gotta be awesome, and guess what? ... it is awesome! Important points: The beer is good. REALLY good. Amazing in fact. If you are a beer lover, you are going to enjoy trying their many brews - they have a lot of variety, and whatever your preference is for beer, you're going to find something you love. I especially appreciated the big black board behind the bar that tells you everything they have currently, and not only that - but a to the point description of the taste of each beer, the alcohol content, and price. Everything you need to know is right up there. An IPA lover myself, I was quickly pointed toward the Gulo Gulo, and my god it was good! I quickly realized that I had no intention of drinking any other beer for the remainder of the evening :) And that is exactly what I did. There was a singer-songwriter woman playing guitar and singing when we arrived, but the music stopped around 9. I'm not sure how many nights they have live music, but it was a nice touch. They don't sell any real food, but you can buy a bag of chips at the bar. The nice thing (incredible even) is that you are allowed to bring outside food IN to the bar. Yeah, that's right. Pretty rad huh? There are foosball tables there - and it looked like there was some competition to get to use them as many people wanted to play. They're a bit noisy, but we were enjoying our beer so much we didn't really care. I love this place! Can't wait to go back next time I'm in Michigan. Oh, and just a warning - it's on Stadium Blvd a ways back from the street and you'll probably be thinking "Am I going to the right place...?" but it's back there. Once you walk in, you will feel as though you've reached a secret oasis of local beer. Go! And enjoy.

Great brew pub. Nice beer variety. Good food at fair prices (and better than pizza from across the street!). A little hard to find but worth the effort.

Finally! A brew-pub on the west side. Don't get me wrong, my heart will always belong to ABC but Wolverine is what I think of when I think of a brewery and the fact that it's super close to my house is awesome. If you're looking for chic, you might want to stay away. But if you're looking for a great place to gather with friends that's about good beer, Wolverine is the place to go. There's no kitchen so you're on your own as far as food but many local places will deliver here or you can do what we do: bring your own! There are large and small tables, an area with a few couches and easy chairs, or seats at the bar. There are also two dart boards and two foosball tables. The dart boards are fairly worn and the darts dull (it's near impossible to get a bullseye) but that's probably the only negative. There are tvs over the bar for sports' fans and good tunes usually playing on the sound system. Parking is ample, there's an outside area and the crowd is chill. Be warned that Wolverine is family friendly so there may be munchkins running around. Definitely a welcome addition to the west side!

I really wanted to like this place. Great ambiance, decent service, lots of parking, close to home. My lady and I came here for St. Paddy's. Sadly, this place was off the mark. "It's a lager revolution" the slogan says on their wall. They're not lying - amber lagers, red lagers, IPA lagers, stout lagers even, which doesn't make any sense but alright. Lagers might be tasty to some, but for me they're run of the mill. You might as well drink Corona or Shock Top Chocolate Wheat. It's just plain. No body, little flavor, at the same prices you'd find at any other brewery. We got the Amber Lager and Gulo Gulo. Neither were remarkable. You could easily confuse one for the other. I got the Brewmaster, a dry, flavorless pork sandwich. She got nachos. You could probably make better food at home, which would be okay were it not for the prices. The pork sandwich was $10, not exorbitant but more than it's worth. If you don't care about beer or food, the ambiance is great. Every table, wall, and napkin is soaked in Michigan memorabilia and old style maps which are so trendy these days. Also ample parking. I'd say give it a go if their lagers were as good as their parking lot.

Let me first start off by saying this review is based on food, atmosphere, trivia nights, and my experiences at the chilli cook-off they host. Any and all beer reviews should be checked on my husband's page. I am not a beer drinker all that often and although I've tried their beer's I wouldn't want my opinion of it to make your decision on whether or not you should try. I know that they are a primarily lager based brew house so if thats what you are into please go in and try. My opinion on the food is that for what is offered the prices for some of them are a big high. The nachos are worth the money and the quesadilla they have is amazing. Some of the sandwiches are not worth the price tag attached but that's just my opinion. Monday night trivia guy = amazing. My friends and I are huge fans. Side note - get there early for any night with trivia, its crazy how busy it gets. Wednesday night guy - a bit awkward and we never have as much fun as we do on Monday and we are some serious trivia fans. The chilli cook off they host every year is so much fun and if you get a chance you should check it out. I happen to know a few of the winners and they would agree as well ;)

This is a great brewery. Ambience: It's really open which I love and it has that laid back feel with its decor. They also have a foosball table, which I'm the man at. Service: The service was good. The bartender was friendly and suggested some good beers. They don't have waitresses and use the order here method. I would prefer waitresses. I'm not a big fan of lines. Beer: I had the Massacre and gulo cubed. They both were fantastic. They do interesting takes on lagers, which is different/awesome. I'm a big IPA fan, so I doubted a lager could be good but they proved me wrong. Both of the beers I had have a super high ABV, so be careful cause they can kick your ass. I didn't try their food but I will definitely be back to check it out. I went on a Saturday night and they had a really great band. Go with a group of friends and I gurrantee you will have a spectacular time.

Food is awesome(although not a lot to choose from), atmosphere is awesome, and the beer is awesome! Love the Lager revolution(their words)! Basically a lager version of every style of craft beer you can think of!

Forget all the other places, and go here now! Hidden gem! Great beer, great service, really nice atmosphere. Free parking. Did not get the food this time. A little hard to find, but other than that, we will be back. By far the best brewery in the area!

Had a casual gathering to celebrate friends' engagement. Album release party was setting up in the tap room but the overflow room -Gulo room, was perfect. Still well tended, quieter than the main room and plenty of entertainment. Tried the special fish tacos w smoked salmon, citrus sauce and shredded cabbage, in flour tortillas. Accompanied w blue tortilla chips, lime wedge and hot sauce. Oh my goodness, these tacos were amazing. Perfect beer food. If your visit includes friends that prefer bud light; get the Wolverine Premier Lager. If you like a nice amber, get a flight and try out a selection. I just wish they would get a sour on the tap.

The main virtue of Wolverine's beers? Subtlety. Maybe that doesn't sound like a raving endorsement, but it's a good thing, and its something you can't say about every brewery. Wolverine, as you know from every previous review, specializes in lagers, and they certainly stretch the boundaries of the category. You'll find the basic golden, amber, and dark lagers that you see in a lot of places (and the Wolverine Dark is a 5-star beer in my book), but there are, at least over the course of the year, dozens of variations on these produced with different hops, flavorings, roasts, etc. There might be several pilsners, for instance, on the menu but each one will head in a slightly different direction tastewise. That's what I'm getting at by "subtlety." A few will be "eah," but at least some will be very good, and show you new ways in which a beer can be good. Which to me is one of a brewer's chief responsibilities. Many beers that people are used to drinking as ales--IPAs, porters, stouts, etc.--are made as lagers here, giving them a smoothness and body the standard versions lack. Not an absolute virtue (I do love a straight up IPA or porter), but an enjoyable twist on some favorites. Can't say I've been impressed with Wolverine's Gulo Gulo india pale lager, one of their flagship beers, but the black Gulo is a favorite. Their pumpkin beer is one of the best I've had, and in the spring I've always got my eye out for their baltic porter lager. Faustian stout, and Green Thumb pale lager are other favorites. The tap list is long and constantly rotating, so you may or may not see any of these (except the Gulo and the Wolverine Dark), but there will almost certainly be something you like in the mix. The food...I do miss the BYO food arrangement, but we liked the turkey and pulled pork sandwiches we've gotten there (actually the second time around the pulled pork was dry...but the first time still stands out as great BBQ). And it must be said: Wolverine has the best nachos in town, and seriously, I'd put them up against any on the planet. Stacked high with a wonderful salsa, perfect portions of guac and sour cream, and chips that don't lose their crunch. You can get the pulled pork on them, which I haven't done yet but is one of my culinary musts. Spacious but simple interior, a bit warehousey. Always appreciate the tables with Great Lakes nautical maps under the varnish. They start me conspiring weekend getaways. When you can only spare an hour or two to get away, Wolverine is worth a stop.

Three stars based upon first visit.... What I didn't like - parking - it was Monday, so the place was full! What I liked: - able to sample the beer - the pulled pork nacho The beer selection is great, just will need to make more visits to try many more of them... the indoor seating and bar area were full and busy, I don't know if Monday is a event night or not, but it was also busy... but we did order our food and got our drink and heated outside and was able to grab a table without any issues. Their pulled pork was excellent and loved the nacho! The pulled pork here was a lot better then many BBQ joints in Ann Arbor... I'll be back for more nacho and beers!!!

The shaved brisket is amazing! The pumpkin squash hummus is my new favorite. This is a hidden gem, no really its hidden behind another building. I am not a huge beer fan, but I drink it and I enjoyed it. The food was really good.

Great food, great atmosphere, and generally great service. First, as everyone's already mentioned, the fact it has a ton of free parking is a nice start. The atmosphere is a little dark, but cozy and fits the scene. They have a lager menu that's 4-5x the size of their food menu, which is about 6-8 sandwiches, 2-3 entrees (burritos and nachos), and side items. But, while their food menu is limited, know that they haven't always served food. One of my ultimate favorites is the pulled pork quesadilla which they recently pulled off the menu but will still make. They also have awesome specials, my favorite was the dirty rice which was rice, beans, cilantro, and their pulled pork on top. I always say I'm going to branch out and try other beers but I'm partial to the Gulo Gulo, which I'm certain is one of their best sellers. It goes great with any menu item and overall the place is just great for sitting back and enjoying the company of your friends or a sports game that's on one of their 4-5 TVs. They provide samples of their other beers, both regular and specials, if you get the urge to break the norm. So why not the 5th star? Service can be spotty. In general, while grabbing your plates/empty glasses and that jazz they're pretty friendly. But, as you order both drinks and food up at the bar, they can sometimes seem incredibly annoyed and unfriendly. But I love their love for anything Michigan and you can't deny a great beer, so I'll be coming back with a smile in hopes that the employees will have one too.

Wolverine Brewing is a little hard to spot now that it's moved to the warehouse-like building behind the main building on the lot that is visible from the street. Never fear--park in the driveway or keep pulling in until you can park in the little clearing before the taproom door. Wolverine Brewing is super casual: I observed many people pushing table together/apart at will, playing cards, and playing board games. One orders at the cashier up front before sitting down with a number. It took quite a while to get our food, and their menu doesn't offer anything special, just sandwiches, nachos, etc. I would come back to just hang out with friends, but not for food.

I'm a NW Beer fan and I was mildly optimistic about an all lager brewery, but they blew me away. Had a flight of six beers and all were great. Staff was great and so was the atmosphere.

I can't believe I forgot to yelp this place until now! I went with a friend late last summer and they were having an art exhibition - that's the sort of local collaborative, community-building project I love to see a local business promoting. The atmosphere is pretty casual - kind of reminds me of drinking at a working-class club like The Moose Lodge - but I like that in a brewpub. Oh yeah - the beer is pretty good and well-priced, too. I don't get to this part of Ann Arbor very often, but I plan to drag my husband and a few friends out here again because it's been too long!

After having a series of disappointing local beers (Arbor Brewing, Grizzly Peak, and Blue Tractor [which is essentially Grizzly Peak]), I wasn't really excited about Wolverine Brewing. I expected some crappy local brewery making cheap, crappy beer for the same jamokes who think ABC is making quality beer. Which they aren't, by the way. Just to be clear. Needless to say I'm consistently pleasantly surprised and impressed by the beer they are making at Wolverine. They seem to specialize in lagers - which are REALLY hard to make well - but they bust out a wide variety of tasty and creative lagers that are really quite something. The beers are always clearly well-made, with no yeast sediment or cloudiness like ABC, and have been given the full time necessary to properly lager (cold age) to be tasty. I'm amazed they have the lagering space necessary to keep up production but make good beer, but apparently they do. They also make good ales, of course. Everything I've had there has at least been good, and some of it as good as any large production brewery could hope for. Perhaps my favorite thing about Wolverine, though, is that they realize that charging $5-6 for a beer made on premises is freaking absurd, and charge very fair prices for their brew. Unlike the other local brewpubs who think they can charge more for their terrible beer than legit production breweries, and have the gall to charge $15+ for a growler fill of their liquid excrement (more than a six pack of legit beer, even at Whole Foods prices), Wolverine makes you want to hang out for a long while and pay $3-4 for pint after pint of good beer. Some may complain about lack of food, but I think that's probably the best thing about it. This isn't a restaurant environment where you have to flag down your server because he hasn't been to your table in 10 minutes and you want to place your order. When you want a beer you go to the bar and order one. It takes like 2 minutes. If you want food, you can bring it in or have it delivered. There are a ton of options in the area and you can eat what you want. The atmosphere, upon first glance, might seem rather warehouse-ish. It's certainly not fancy, but it's definitely comfortable. The music is kept at a good volume and the crowd isn't ever too packed in, so you can carry on a comfortable conversation. There are a few TVs over the bar showing sports, if that's your thing, too. The bartenders are nice and don't seem to give anyone a bad attitude. They also have a lifetime membership for their mug club that shows they really appreciate their regular customers. Long story short: if you want great, locally-made beer in the Ann Arbor area, go here. I wish I had made the effort to go here sooner!

After hearing about this place and driving by many times, I finally visited the Wolverine Brewing Company last night. I was unaware that Wolverine specialized in lagers; as one of my less liked beers I was a little weary. The real charm for me was not the beer, which I felt was just fine - just not my taste. But the atmosphere & the food. The tap room is really open and had tons of space for groups small & large. The menu was filled will delicious sandwiches that were in the 8-10 range, each served with chips (no fryer). I had the Club, it was no frills but made with quality fresh ingredients. . Overall I'd definitely go back despite the beer not being what I normally drink. Good food, laid back & plenty of space! It would be a great place to bring a board game or a project and spend some time. Plus, it's not downtown so there is ample free parking.

First time in Ann Arbor and wanted to check out the local breweries. Read online (Through TagaBrew.com ) that this was a great place to check out! I am glad that I did! The place had a very relaxed and enjoyable feel. Bartenders were amazing and very knowledgeable about the business and beer. Did not get to try the food due to eating before hand. Gulo Gulo was all it was cracked up to be! Very excellent! Will definitely visit again next time I am in town! I just wish they had an Imperial Stout!

We stopped in on a Friday night before reaching our final destination of Detroit. It pained me a bit to stop in Ann Arbor (Go Illini!), but after reading some great reviews, my husband convinced me. Prices were surprisingly very reasonable, allowing us to try multiple beers. They list all the available beers on a huge chalkboard behind the bar, and there was no shortage of varieties to try. The only one I wished I'd gotten to sample and didn't was their pumpkin beer - it wasn't out yet when we went. Ordering is easy enough - walk up to the counter and tell them your order, whether it's for beer or food. There were a ton of tables. We didn't have trouble finding a seat when we arrived, but that changed by the time we left. While there, we found ourselves wanting a small snack to tide us over until dinner, so we went with the nachos after skimming reviews for recommendations. They didn't take very long to come out, and they were delicious. The perfect bar food to go with out beer. Oh, and I want ot mention that parking was a breeze in the attached lot.

Staff is great and most of the beers are really good to great. I'd avoid it on game days, it gets packed and it's armature hour.

Wolverine Brew Co. was a bit of an afterthought for us on a recent trip to Ann Arbor. However in the end it turned out to be my favourite of the Ann Arbor Breweries. The breweries' specialty is lagers, my least favourite style of beer. Nonetheless the selection was sufficiently varied for any beer lover. We sampled two beers: Faustian Baltic Porter and the Grand Cruz. The Grand Cruz was a very good beer, a winter lager reminiscent of a Belgian ale, at an ABV of 9.5% this beer had a good kick, with sufficient sweetness but was still easy to drink. The Baltic porter was a good representation of the style, showing that these guys know how to make more than just a lager. The atmosphere is more converted warehouse than chic brew pub. It was quite spacious, and had a packed house on a Sunday afternoon (due to a chili cook-off they were having). The service was excellent, and very friendly. They also had a good selection of bottled beer for you to take home. As an avid beer drinker I would definitely say this is a must visit if in Ann Arbor.

Great on-site brewed beers and ales. Excellent to be more precise. There's a perfect brew for every taste. When I am here in town I really enjoy coming here for the usual bevy of great live music and the tasty brews. A highlight of every other Tuesday (when the band is in town) is enjoying the perfect live Bluegrass sound of Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys. If you've never heard (really good) Bluegrass live before or even think you might not like it...give them a listen when they are here. They are superb. Oh, yes..and the beer too. Go for the beer and stay for the music. Or is it, go for the music and stay for the beer. Just go...and you'll be happy you did...for the beer...and the music. Only snacks are served. Snacks meaning chips. You are free to bring in from any number of to-go venues around. The Wolverine is Growler friendly...so filler up and bring some home!

I'm not a big drinker, so I won't comment on that part of the experience. But, I can say they've got some nice food options. And, the trivia on Wednesdays is super fun.

Beer selection is cheap and good quality, ranging in $3-$6. The smaller sizes are great for lightweights like me. Haven't had the food. Pretty casual ambiance, more functional townie, normal sports fans, no flipped collar bros. A friend from out of town likes to come here to meet friends. It's spacious, has a foosball table and several screens. It's far from downtown, has plenty of parking, and tucked behind the Big George's appliance store. I don't come out this way very often, but it's a solid place for meeting a group of folks. And for what it's worth, I would feel comfortable getting a beer here on my own.

  • Catie F.

GREAT spot to hang with a group of friends, have some beers, grab a burger and maybe get a little rowdy. The atmosphere is loud and fun, almost like a campus pub. The tables are close together and the space gets a little crowded - but it's part of the charm. You can play foosball or a couple other games (I think air hockey?) and listen to the live music on Tuesdays and weekends. I think they have trivia, too. We loved the selection of beer, the bartenders were friendly, and my fiance was obsessing over the blue cheese and jalapeno burger that he ordered. The menu is small and possibly rotating, but everything we saw seemed good - as long as you're in the mood for bar food. Pro tip: you can reserve the back room for group events, and there's plenty of space including a private bar. They WILL allow you to bring in outside food if you want, or order from their menu (or some combination of both). Totally flexible, totally chill.

  • Aislinn W.

Seriously good beer, especially for those who aren't necessarily super-excited about ales. There is a lot of diversity in the options, so as long as you like SOME kind of beer, you'll find something you really like here. I also appreciate that you can get smaller pours in case you want to have a drink but not get drunk, or just don't have that much cash to spend. Major tip: get the nachos with pulled pork. I wouldn't ever have gotten them because I just don't think of this as a food place, but I needed a snack and they are, without question, the best nachos in Ann Arbor, and possibly the world.

Great place to check out! Not in downtown, so we didn't have to wait for a table on a Saturday night. Very good and reasonably priced food and beer! Good selection of beer. We really enjoyed the live music as well. Definitely worth checking out!

Stopped in on our typical Saturday/Sunday brewery self tour and really liked this place. Had never heard of it before but, we had a beer and although I don't have one particular beer that stands out but, I don't remember disliking this beer either. It's not the first Brewery I would suggest but, definitely on the list of places to stop if you get down on some good food and delicious Michigan beer!

For the first time drinking here, everything is nice and great. It's much cheaper than I thought. It only cost about 2.5 for 12 oz beer. I like the beer here.

I took my wife for the Valentine's special. Chef Matteo Melosi prepared wood fire grilled salmon topped with eggs benedict and a side of potato wedges. The eggs benedict salmon was served over an english muffins. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I came with a big appetite and was very well satisfied.

Chill atmosphere and tasty cold beer is the name of the game at Wolverine. Wolverine specialize in lagers, which is rather unusual this day in age. And they do some very creative things that normally are not seen with lagers. Two of my favs were the Rye IPL and White IPL (both a lager version of an IPA). The rye had that nice spice up front, while the white was refreshing. Both were crisper than your typical IPA comparison. The Breadwinner was another tasty treat, while their Dark was one of the better black lagers I've had. The place feels like a dive bar - cinder block walls, slight industrial feel, Foosball, and darts - and that was perfect. I would imagine it gets busy here during football season. Nice simple patio too, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back the next time I'm in Ann Arbor.

  • Beck E.

Love the ambiance here. It's a bit on the dark, intimate side and isn't too loud. It's a great place to wind down right after work. They do lagers right. And the Cajun dill gator-tators are tasty!

  • Melissah L.

Fun place! Beer is SUPER cheap, really great tasting, and they have a ton of variety. The venue itself is not very nice, but they recently started serving food which seemed to turn it into a nice little neighborhood place where you can find people of all ages. Love it!

  • Greg W.

If you love beer and a cool hangout, this place is for you. I was pleasantly surprised that the food was great and you get a lot of it. A must stop if you are in the area.

  • Sean H.

Updated: They recently added food and it is SPECTACULAR!!!! Excellent smoked meats make for really tasty sandwiches. If smoke isn't your thing, many other options. We love the Gold Plate -- delicious charcuterie, cheeses, olive tapenade, whole grain mustard, greens, and a toasted baguette make a delicious light meal for two. Food has definitely solidified this place for us. Also, they've added a newbie-friendly light beer that's actually quite tasty. Only one issue -- Monday and Wednesday nights are trivia night. Fun if you're down for a raucous night of trivia, not so much if you're looking for casual conversation. But it ends early and the Trivia Types vanish nearly instantly when it wraps.

I have been there a couple times since their opening. I think the beer is good the food average (overpriced) and honestly the service and atmosphere has lost something. It used to be more of a friendly local atmosphere now it is just another beer bar. Nothing special.

Let me preface this review by saying I LOVE the beer here. I love the vibe. I love most all of it. What I don't love is being ripped off.. I come here twice/month for trivia. It's always a good time. A few weeks back I noticed there was a new bartender whom I recognized from a previous place. In the past he had been extremely rude. No big deal, let bygones be bygones. I thought he was nicer - until I realized he was overcharging me today. Four times I ordered a 15 ounce beer (for me and one other person, side note) and every time I got a 12 ounce. At first I did not notice but my friend pointed it out. I thought it must be a mistake. For the fourth beer, I clearly enunciated 15 ounce, but I got a 12 ounce. I'm not going to cause a scene. I paid my tab, went back to my table and did the math, using their price board, four separate times. Every time the math worked out to: he charged me for 15 ounces but gave me 12. I don't know how this would/could benefit him. It's 75 cents extra per beer. That said, I'm really disappointed. Like I said, I'm not going to cause a scene over $3. But I don't want to be ripped off either.. I was hoping the server's attitude had changed since the last place but maybe not. I genuinely like Wolverine, their atmosphere, their beer and the rest. Just really bummed about tonight...

The beer is great and the atmosphere is welcoming. The barkeeps are friendly and well informed. Love Wolverine for meeting friends, great live music, Trivia NIghts, darts, watching football and baseball and drinking great craft beer. We want the place to thrive, and want to know that we can always count on the food and service at Wolverine.

Great, great place! The staff is very helpful. The beers, although lagers are far from my favorite, are tasty, and the food is unique and tasty. The inside is a cool place to hangout. Been here a few times and am never disappointed.

  • Pat M.

The beer is great, but the ambiance is very comforting!! It's an old fashion bar in the middle of Ann Arbor. A person can sit at the bar, talk to a friendly bartender and enjoy a great beer. I will definitely be going back!

  • Joe S.

Quite possibly one of my favorite places in the world. Tap rotation is consistent and always interesting. The beer is the best micro in Ann Arbor proper. And the food is excellent. Free darts and Foosball (donations suggested). When I was moving in town I began calling this place the "home office" because I could go in most any time of day, use the wifi, and watch a game. My happy place.

You gotta try the killer burrito with pulled pork! It is huge! The pulled pork with fresh avocado and rest of the fixins works very well. The mango salsa is so spicy but sweet where you gotta keep scopin' it in to the burrito. Lots of great beers also to accompany the food here. Came to see a friends's band and enjoyed the food and beers as well.

Went with 5 other friends on a Friday night. Didn't have to wait too long for a table and our food. Ordered the AMAZING nachos, the pulled pork sandwich, and the special (smoked beef brisket sandwich), and 3 different beers (Shiny New Toy (a lager), Quickhatch, and the Massacre. All of the food was very good and smoky. The pulled pork was a little dry, but the bbq sauce it came with fixed that. The beef briskey was perfect and not dry at all. The nachos were huge, easily shared between 4 people since there's so much meat on them. For the beers, I wasn't too into Shiny New Toy, but enjoyed the Quickhatch and the Massacre very much. The quickhatch and massacre are both aged in bourbon barrels. The atmosphere was fun. While the place was loud, it wasn't too hard to hear everyone at the table. Prices were excellent and very reasonable. The nachos and pulled pork sandwich were $10, and the beef brisket special was $12. The beers were around $3.50 for a 12 oz. I would definitely go back again and try more of the beers.

Picked up 4 kegs for my wedding reception. No ID. No receipt/confirmation. I'm glad no one else tried to pickup my order. In any case, the beer was delicious and worth every penny. I look forward to trying their other beers in the near future.

This place is a brewery. It's not a restaurant. As a brewer there is no better in the city. I hate saying that as it's only a half mile from my house and still a hidden gem. If more people knew about this place it would be even harder to find a table. The beer is always great The prices are perfect The atmosphere isn't tense The location cannot be beat if you want laid back and off the beaten path Hell! I'm going tonight for a pint

Was in the area on business. A good selection of housebrews. 3 different size beer choices (Glass, Tall glass or pitcher) for very reasonable price. I was there on a weeknight and they had a very large trivia crowd going on.

I've been to Wolverine Brewery twice now on Wednesdays for trivia night. It's a lot of fun (they also host trivia on Mondays), but get there early if you want a chance at a table. Trivia starts at 7:00, you need to be there at 6:15. No joke. Wolverine is very no-frills. They brew beer, and they serve it to you at the bar. The beer ranges from the very accessible Wolverine Premium Lager to much more "serious" beers, like IPAs. The beer menu is very informative, including not only the pricing, but also the IBU's, which is a scale that measures bitterness. The beer seems well-priced, and it's a buck off pitchers from 4-7pm. The interior is pretty raw, they have a couple of TVs but not over-bearing, and they have a foosball table if you need a distraction. Other things to know: Waitress service? Nope. Food? Nuh-uh, not unless you count the small bags of Combos available behind the bar. The good news is that you can bring food in. Heck, you can even have food delivered to you there by one of the many pizza joints in the neighborhood. On quiz nights, some of the Mark's Carts have been there to serve the hungry masses - Darcy's Cart and Debajo del Sol were there last time. Naturally that grub is on the pricy side ($3 a taco??) but still tasty. Wolverine is a great place to have some beer with some friends. It's not fancy, but it's well outside the university orbit, so you have a chance to meet some non-academics and some townies if you try.

The beer is awesome and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is great for large groups or a couple. You can bring/order outside food. It's a little "off the beaten path" so it can be tough to find if you don't know where you're going ahead of time. Steel-tip dart boards and a foosball table can easily round out an enjoyable evening.

I'd be a regular if I lived in Ann Arbor. The El Verano could very well be my favorite summer beer ever. It feels slightly heretical to say that when you're in Michigan with Bell's Oberon but that was one good beer. The atmosphere is a mix of sports and dive with Michigan blue walls that give it more character. In other words, it's totally laidback, fun and easy to bring anyone to. It's nice to go to places where you don't have to worry that it's not someone's "scene." We sat outside on the patio and hung out. This could just be my perception, or Ann Arbor lovesickness, but the ventilation was amazing here unlike at other bars. The bar felt so...airy. For a place that clearly sells itself on its unpretentiousness, I like that they had such clean bathrooms as well. This is a dive/sports bar done right. I'm impressed that such a good brewery resides within city limits! I learned that they specialize in lagers. It seems that most craft beers these days are these heavy, aromatic, knock-you-off-your-barstool soups of hops. Frankly, I'd be more excited about the current craft beer movement if more brewers attempted to craft lighter styles that aren't aiming to overwhelm consumers' palates and leave them with 48-hour hangovers. I salute Wolverine Brewing Company for bringing art and imagination back to brewing lagers, the real beer of the "everyman." A hangover may have resulted had I been able to stay longer with such delicious, drinkable beer and eminently reasonable prices. Places like this get me excited about the potential of beer again. Michigan was always ahead of the curve in terms of microbrewing. Once again, I can see them setting trends with ales of the likes of those brewed at Wolverine Brewing Company.

Came here for a baby shower recently and it was a great time! Unfortunately it was during the middle of a snow storm so I couldn't stay terribly long but it was a cool space. I think it used to be a warehouse of some sort because it's got really high ceilings and a pretty large seating area that looks little sparse in terms of decor next to the size but they do have some cool illustrations on the walls and some nice couches strewn about here and there that fill up the room. Pretty casual. The beer is made on site and they have a variety of different brews to choose from. The Wolverine Premium Lager is made from all local ingredients, including water pulled from the Huron river. If you like it a little darker they also have the Wolverine Dark Lager for your thirst quenching enjoyment. They specialize in lagers but they do have a rotating list of other flavors and styles like IPA, porters, and rye. They genuinely have something for everyone!

Happily, another brew pub opened up in Ann Arbor. Although I had no burning desire to go there, I found myself sitting at the bar once a friend invited me. The beer, as I expected was pretty good. I had already sampled their wares at a beer fest, so I had a pretty good indication. They offer a very reasonable ($65) lifetime mug club membership, but since it's not in my sphere of doing things, I declined to purchase one. However, I did win one at the weekly trivia event, so I usually go there on Fridays to meet up with some chums. I tend toward the hoppy brews, but whatever I had there was very good. There's not food on the premises, save for Pilar's Tamales. You can find those there on Friday. There are menus for delivery options in the area. The place itself is nicely laid out with specially made tables. The only real gripe I have concerning the facility involves the bathrooms. One seat for men and one for women. Given that the place serves beer, I would expect more. All-in-all, a nice place to go.

Great beer. All lagers which is cool and different. Gulo Gulo is outstanding. The food is good as well. And the service was great, Paul (bartender), especially.

This was my favorite place to go until I rented a room in the back for a party. Our bartender Kara was incredibly rude and made my guests feel very uncomfortable. I was told one thing when I booked the room and another the night of the party. So, if you do book a party here make sure that you have in writing all the details as well a signed copy with you the night of your party. I will never go back there again!

Wow - everything about this place is great - super helpful folks behind the bar, all kinds of great beers on tap. And the beers were fantastic - we had both lights and darks. Not a huge deal - but the bartender was basically like "try them all until you find something you like" unprompted - how often do you hear that?? They don't have food - though - BYOF..

I was only in Ann Arbor for a week, but managed to go to Wolverine at least 4 times. Absolutely amazing beer and I've gotten to try everything on the current menu. They have the best pumpkin beer I've ever tried. I also love how its all about the beer here, no kitchen. Sounds odd but you can get food delivered from anywhere or bring in whatever you like. There are also a few different food carts outside. I highly recommend this place and next time I come back to A2 Ill be here, I, hope that one day they will sell this in the south where I actually live.

Wolverine Breweing Company is a great little brewery on the West Side. They have live music every Tuesday, trivia Monday and Wednesday, and a patio when the weather is nice. They don't have a kitchen, but allow you (encourage, even) to BYOB. Most everyone at Trivia succumbs to the $5 Little Cesear's pizzas across the road, but I've seen Taco Bell, sushi, or just a jar of salsa. I love any place that let's you bring in your own food - everyone can have what they want! The beer is very good, and reasonably priced ($4 for a 15 ounce). If you're an avid fan, they offer a Mug Club for $65 (lifetime membership) with discounts on beer. Parking can fill up, but you cna generally find a spot to the left of the building on the gravel.

Wow, this place was good! Their beers were top notch and very affordable ($5.50 for a 22oz). I the amber lager (a Vienna style) was quite refreshing and the Maibock was excellent. The pulled pork flat out kicks butt. The place was kinda "dive" like and not much too look at but I am not going back for the decor, I am going back for more beer and pulled pork!

Figured that since I was on a road trip, I might as well grab something to take back. Unlik certain brewpubs in the Detroit area, (COUGHCOUGH BLACK LOTUS COUGH COUGH KUHNHENN COUGH) they had all the materials on hand to send me home with a growler of delicious beer (Although Black Lotus was only out of caps. They did their best to come up with a workaround, and at least had the good graces to be embarassed about the affair). It was an Indian dark beer, which they were happy to have me try. My bf got a growler of the Oktoberfest (which I honestly couldn't taste after trying mine), and a six pack each of the amber and dark lagers. You can take six packs home! That's handy! People were pretty friendly and relaxed. Seems like a nice place.

Wolvering State Brewing Company has been completely gracious with providing my derby team a place for our silent auction fundraiser and just today allowing me to host a non-traditional baby shower with 50 guests. We ordered pizza and had cake, and guests purchased beverages from the bar. On a snowy Sunday afternoon, it was a win/win for both us and the pub! The staff is friendly, the beer is great, and it feels really good to support a local business!

Can't complain about a lager-specializing brewery less than 300 feet from my house. It's true, ambiance-wise, that it can sometimes seem like you are in some high school student's basement, but shit, the beer is good. And for those complaining about how no food is being served, imagine how that would affect the tastiness of your beer if your brewers were having to deal with the whole complicated food service thing instead of focusing on what they are good at-- there's a Little Ceasar's across the way ($5 pizza to go), a hoagie shop, a Chinese place, La Chela (Mexican food) is a few blocks away, as is an organic food store (Arbor Farms)-- if you want great beer + food, then Grizzly Peak is the next best thing. But seriously, Wolverine is just a good time. One more note: as a single lady that comes here on a semi-frequent basis in the late afternoons to work on my writing with a frosty pint, and who *wants* to be alone while doing so, I *SUPER* appreciate how laid back and respectful (and not sleazy) the clientele is, compared to some other breweries and bars I have been at solo. Keep up the good work Wolverine!

This place is awesome. A new brewery in the area and I just now find out about it!?? This place has been here about 10 months. They have an IPA that is one of my new favorites called Insolent Mink. The place is very cool looking and had live jazz going when I was there. I tried several of their brews and they were all very good. I can't wait to get back here.

This is a great place and they have a wonderful selection of beer. The people who work here are VERY friendly and they host numerous events. I've been to work functions, baby showers, Derby Girl bashes and many other parties at the Wolverine Brewing Co. No food, but they allow you to bring whatever you want.

I went to the Wolverine Brewing Company the other day and walked away impressed. I tried two drafts, one smooth, and one more bitter and both were great. Get the large size! It is a significant upgrade from the medium for a small price increase. The environment is nice, and nobody was too loud or obnoxious. They have a foosball table and darts for entertainment. They don't have a kitchen, which is both a good and a bad thing. The bad is that you have to wait a little longer for food. The good is that you can bring any food you want there! There's Izzy's, Little Caesar's, and a Chinese place right across the street, so you can pick it up on the way there. I'll definitely be heading back there soon. I just wish they had a Facebook or something, it'd be nice to keep updated on the brews they have available.

Absolutely amazed that I'm the first person to review this place... Good start for a brewpub, it's laid out about as well as you could expect given the space. The beer is brewed on site, my beer snob friends and I all agree that it's good stuff. The staff is very personable. There isn't a kitchen but they've prepared for that by allowing you to order delivery and keeping an extensive selection of menus from nearby restaurants. Last Friday they had a table from Pilar's serving up tamales. It looks as if they're trying as hard as they can to provide their patrons with good food along with their good beer. I'll be coming back often, drop by and try the IPA.

Bought a mug club membership on their opening day, and haven't regretted the decision. Several trips have yielded excellent beers, with my favorite being the dark lager. Go on Fridays for Pilar's Tamales.

Positives: Friendly staff, good live music on the occasions they have it, beer selection. Negatives: Seats away from the bar are uncomfortable, somewhat sterile warehouse-like setting. On the whole, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Great to have a brew pub near the stadium. All the beer I tasted was good. Especially lile the beer ratings and descriptions over the bar. Agree that food would be nice, I understand why they don't have it.

I don't profess to be a beer expert, or even a beer drinker, or really, even much of a drinker these days aside from the occasional cocktail...but I've really enjoyed the sips I've pilfered from my husband's frosty-mugs at Wolverine. He, on the other hand, raves about the beer at Wolverine. I have noticed that the brews are very high-quality, flavorful, and don't ever taste flat-sweet, or bitterly-sour (all faults I've found at other places - hence my reluctance to even try local brews.) I like the comfortable set-up (and the very-comfortable walkable distance from our house too - heheheh!) Order in food (see my recommendations from Happy Wok or Izzy's) or bring in your own kibble. The patio is comfy, and as there is no food-service/kitchen, there's no smelly dumpster full of rotting grease to perfume the air, like oh-so-many places downtown...alas! Patrons are low-key, staff are very friendly/nice. You cannot beat the prices.

Great local brewpub. All lagers which I prefer. Bring your own food. Wolverine Premium is a tasty lighter lager. Live music on many nights adds to the atmosphere.

Where was this place when I was in college? Or grad school? Or possessed of more free time instead of small children? A friend and I were looking to get together just to catch up and didn't want to do dinner, but neither were we up for the noisy bar hit-on-me scene. He suggested Wolverine's Tap Room -- and we both loved it. A nice selection of choices on tap and a knowledgeable barman who could make suggestions to our taste and preferences. We happened into trivia night, which was fine/fun, though we didn't play. No food service is a shame, but I saw some folks with a Little Caesar's pizza, so there appears to be a bring-your-own alternative. I'll absolutely go back if I ever have another kid-free evening to hang out!
